I love being able to capture them at the particular stage…never again will this family be one with a 4 year old and a 4 month old! Take for example the photo above with little K squeezing mom’s hand and bitty P pulling on her hair…this is not something that will be happening in 10 years. Time does not stand still so documenting it, all of it, is important!

Jillian and Chris…I do hope you enjoyed our time together and that these images will bring a smile to your face today and again in the future!

Officially it falls on September 12. Quite a few many years ago I sent a card to our grandparents to honor each of them. James’ grandmother told me that I was the only one that sent a card (to defend the other grandkids, James is the oldest so none of them probably would have thought to mail to the grands). Plus I used to work at a Hallmark store in college so sending cards, the paper kind has always been something I enjoy doing. It is one small way to brighten the lives of those that are dear to us. Now that technology has exploded a bit more it is easier to simply send a quick wall post or email – not that this doesn’t mean you care as much but I personally still occasionally like something to hold in my hands! For grandparents day this year our many parents and grandparents might be getting an updated wallet photo or maybe one of the adorable accordion albums. If you haven’t heard, these are a great gift for any loved one on your list. For grandparents day or even Christmas! Here is an example of a 3×3 accordion albums (they also come in a rectangular wallet size). The cool thing is not only can you preserve quite a few images from your session but they are a handy size for the grandparents to carry around with them and show off!

For any customers that had a session within the last 12 months, your gallery can be reloaded to allow you select images to order Christmas cards or albums. Contact me to set up a 2 week viewing of your gallery!

This post is going to be about a variety of topics so just come along for the ride…

Over the last year as this business has been evolving, I as a person, wife and mother have also been transforming – growing up if you will! While I’ve been photographing other people’s children, it has brought me face-to-face with even more parenting styles. Throughout life I believe that we are presented with information that we can choose to ignore or add to our current knowledge base. One thing that recently has been in the forefront of my brain has been the aspect of teaching our children so they can eventually move on and life their own lives – sadly they won’t always be this little and adorable. While spending time with James’ mother at the beach a few months ago, it hit me that just 30 years ago she was in a similar situation with James as the 5 year old. Thirty years seems like a long time but yet at the same time not. Back to my original point…my personal style of parenting Jameson started out different then it is now. It has evolved not only because I no longer have an infant, but instead a young boy – a Kindergartener, wow! I was the over-controlling, no-one-else-can-do-it-as-good-as-me type. {reading this book helped me quite a bit} I am happy to say that I am better about keeping it in check now. I have learned to trust others and enjoy letting them share in this journey of our son’s life. I want him to be influenced by others and have more experiences then just James & I as his parents can provide for him…we do want these influences to be positive ones and with Christ followers. Ultimately, they are all God’s children only ours for a precious time. Oh how treasured I feel to have been chosen to parent this one special boy!

With regards to photography, for some sessions, not only am I the photographer, but I’m also okay being the nanny of sorts. For the family sessions I find that it is easier for me to work and for the kids to feel less pressure if we pull away from the rest of the group. So moms and dads – feel free to bring a magazine or just take a walk together and leave the kiddos to me for a bit – I bet you’re be surprised at the natural smiles you’ll see in the final images! {I honestly think this works because I can act my zanny self around the younger crowd without making a fool of myself in front of the other adults – ha!}

The last few months I’ve been adding some new items to the finishing product selection offered through Jill Jarvis Photography. I’ll be posting about a few of them on the weblog over the next few weeks! The first focus will be on metals! This is one of my personal favorites due to the style in our home. There are a wide variety of sizes offered ranging from 3.5×5 all the way up. Here are a few examples!

It was so nice to take time yesterday morning with just the girls so Mallory could be captured at this current stage. This is a cute little park right in the middle of things in Toccoa. If anyone else ever wants a small, beautifully kept location, this is a good one! The grass is the kind my hubby would love touch! {yes he is a bit obsessed with lush grass!}

For anyone thinking ahead to Christmas card photos, I’m getting ready to publish the information regarding the mini sessions for this fall. Don’t miss out because space will be limited!

Kylie was the lucky winner from the 2009 session contest! It is always fun to photograph a family again, especially this beautiful family! Kylie discussed taking the girls to the river to capture some fun photos! It was a great way to keep a bit cool since it has been so humid and warm lately! Over the weekend I had a session with this beautiful family. For these maternity pictures I had an idea to try them love light style…C&J were totally onboard! So we started out with a few before the sun went down so they could include their adorable daughter. Then we took a break to let the sun completely go down. It was fun to try something new! Thank you again C&J for going on a light search with me!

So thinking outside the box, love light style photos are for more than just love birds!

Earlier this week we headed downtown and had a fun time being quick for the camera! We had a bubble blowing practice, balance beam walking and a few hugs added in for good measure! And if you notice some of the images lately with ‘extra’ elements added…my latest obsession includes added overlays to the images. These can of course be removed if you prefer, just something fun to personalize each image even more!

With cooler weather on my brain I thought I would mention that if you are thinking about scheduling a session for the fall…contact me soon – weekend dates are becoming quite limited! I will be posted information regarding mini sessions at the mountains, in Ohio as well as at the red truck…stay tuned!

peeks on facebook...

Wow where does the time go? Has it really been nearly a month since a post was made? For two weeks of July I was in Ohio shooting some sessions while also visiting with family. The dates of our trip were adjusted at the last minute so that we could be in town when another out of town extended family member was there (a specific request made by my maternal grandmother – who is in the photo to the left, she will be 90 next month!). So off we went to Ohio for a family picnic (photo here shows everyone that was able to make it!). It was great to be able to see cousins that I hadn’t connected with in years. I was only wish we would have had more time to catch up.

Now to explain the absence to the blog…on day two of our 14 day trip my laptop crashed – hardcore. So my plan had been to update sneak peeks from the road and finish their edits once I got home. Well I’ve learned that my plan is not always what God has in mind. So doing edits before returning home did not happen. Now that we have been home for a bit, I’ve finally gotten all of these sessions edited and am ready to show some sneak peeks (really just peeks since all of these customers have their full galleries already). Thank you again to everyone for understanding the technical issues and allowed me time to get everything done. It was a bit nice to have the extra time to spend with family while we were in Ohio. My grandmother as well as James’ grandfather had some health issues while we were there. It was so nice to be given the gift of actually seeing their faces and holding their hands through it. So far they both seem to be on the road to recover.

All of the peeks from the summer Ohio sessions will be made on facebook. Check out the fan page to see how much fun was had capturing moments for these awesome families! Thank you all again for your patience!

With both of her children & granddaughter heading into town Darragh knew it would be a great time to capture their family all together. I was so happy our schedules worked out, along with the beautiful weather, so this session could happen!

Little miss L is so adorable! And as you can tell, she easily becames the main focus! I love that we were able to capture this photo of her with her grandma – love that you can even see the kiss mark from Grandma (yes this could be removed digitally but I personally kinda like the reminder love from grandma!).

Before I was heading out for the session, my son, Jameson was asking me who I was taking pictures of today. (He gets very interested in who I’m going off to see – and almost always follows up once I’m home to see their pictures! Love his interest in what I’m doing!) So yesterday when I told him that there would be one little girl. He decided to give me a couple of his silly bandz to share with her, which she did not forget about at the end of the session (because I almost did!).

Jon & Darragh, I hope you enjoy this little peek into your images. More will be coming in the full gallery soon!

On another note, I wanted to let everyone know that I will be traveling over the next two weeks. Planning to be back to my typical response time by Monday, July 26. In the meantime if contact me, it may take me a bit longer to get back to you.
